Private Bathroom vs Shared in Glamping: The Five Rooms Compared

The most common question people ask before booking glamping is about the bathroom.

Most travellers like the idea of sleeping under canvas, waking up to mountain fog, and hearing rain on the roof. Fewer people are certain about walking along a timber path at midnight to brush their teeth.

Desa Eko accommodates sixteen guests across eight individual mountain dwellings on a forested ridge in Munduk. Across those eight rooms, two have private ensuite bathrooms, and six share communal bathroom facilities.

Here is an honest breakdown of how the setup works, what the walking distances are, and which room suits how you travel.

How the shared bathrooms work

Our shared bathroom block sits in the centre of the property, connected to every room by an elevated timber boardwalk with low-level night lighting.

At maximum capacity, there are never more than sixteen guests on the entire property. This is an eight-room retreat, not a commercial campsite or hostel. You will rarely wait for a shower or a toilet.

The facilities include:

  • Enclosed private stone shower cubicles with continuous hot water.

  • Western flushing toilets in private stalls.

  • Ceramic water basins with hand-poured natural soaps.

  • Continuous daily cleaning by our local housekeeping team.

The trade-off is distance. Depending on which tent you book, the walk to the bathroom block is between ten and thirty metres. When mountain rain arrives at night, that means putting on slip-on shoes and walking under a timber canopy for twenty seconds. For outdoor enthusiasts and campers, that is second nature. For travellers who wake up multiple times every night, it can feel like friction.

The five rooms broken down

1. Rooms with private ensuite bathrooms

If sharing a bathroom is a dealbreaker, there are two choices:

  • The Deluxe Tent with Private Bathroom: Built with solid timber walls and canvas accents on an elevated platform. It features an open-air ensuite bathroom built from mountain river stone, with hot water and unobstructed views into the forest canopy. You step straight from your bedroom into your private shower. See The Deluxe Tent with Private Bathroom.

  • The Studio: Our 150 m² handcrafted bamboo residence. It has an enclosed ensuite bathroom, a private outdoor stone soaking tub, a dedicated work area, and an expansive living lounge. It offers complete privacy from the rest of the property. See The Studio.

2. Rooms with shared bathroom facilities

If you are comfortable with a short walk along the boardwalk, three room types use the central facilities:

  • The Tents: Elevated canvas shelters set over the hillside on timber piles. Built for purists who want deep immersion in the mountain forest. King-size bed with down duvet. Details are on The Tents page.

  • The Lotus: Perched on its own secluded ridge looking directly down into the valley river. Includes an expansive private deck and inclusive mini-bar. See The Lotus.

  • Deluxe Tents: Sturdier wooden cabin structures with canvas accents, offering a covered terrace and outdoor daybed overlooking the ridge. See the Deluxe Tents.

Who should choose which

We give guests direct advice based on how they actually travel:

  • Book ensuite (The Deluxe Tent w/ Bathroom or Studio) if: You are travelling with young children; you get up multiple times during the night; you want absolute privacy; or you are celebrating a special occasion where convenience comes first.

  • Book shared (The Tents, Lotus, or Deluxe Tents) if: You spend your daylight hours hiking waterfall trails; you have stayed in national parks or alpine huts; or you prefer the authentic tactile feeling of sleeping directly under canvas in the elements.

Frequently asked questions

Is the water hot in the shared showers?

Yes. Showers run on dedicated water heating systems. Even during chilly 17 °C mountain mornings or heavy November rainstorms, showers maintain consistent hot water pressure.

Is the walkway safe to navigate after dark?

The timber boardwalk runs flat without steep stairs between the tents and the bathroom facilities. Low-voltage solar lamps light the path continuously through the night without disturbing the darkness of the forest.

Do I need to bring towels or toiletries?

No. Fresh cotton bath towels, face towels, and natural botanical body wash and shampoo are provided in every room upon arrival and refreshed daily.

Cooked village breakfast, fresh tropical fruit, and waterfall access come with each booking. Calendar availability and room specifications are published directly on our website.

Two nights, eight rooms, sixteen guests max. Breakfast and waterfall trails included.
